Black Friday crowds of shoppers hit the stores!

Shoppers tailgated, clogged the roadways and crowded the stores across Manatee and Sarasota County today.  The economy remains on thin, but Black Friday still drew throngs of eager, and bleary-eyed, consumers.

The fifth annual Midnight Madness at the Ellenton outlets drew an estimated 25,000 customers as the mall’s 2,400 parking lot was maxed out once retailers opened their doors. More than a dozen Florida Highway Patrol officers helped direct traffic coming off U.S. 301 as well as pedestrians crossing 60th Avenue East from the off-site parking lots of nearby businesses.

We did not need any Highway Patrol but we have had a great crowd out here at Honda Cars of Bradenton today.  We are expecting a busy Holiday season and looking forward to putting some beautiful Honda's under the trees this Christmas.  Come see us, we are open tomorrow from 9-7pm and Sunday from 12-5pm.  There are still a lot of incredible deals waiting for you.

Many consider the day after Thanksgiving to be the official start to the holiday season, which prompts stores all over the country to open in the wee hours of the morning and sell their merchandise at sale prices.

And people have already begun lining up. A couple in St. Petersburg, have been in line for Best Buy since Nov. 17, hoping to be the first to get into the store.

With a fifth-straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship on the line, Jimmie Johnson heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway only 15 points behind points leader Denny Hamlin. The 1.5-mile speedway is the host for the season finale, and race coverage begins Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. Here are the stats on Hendrick Motorsports, which has posted nine top-five finishes, 18 top-10s and two pole position in 10 events (43 starts) at Homestead. In six of the last 10 events at the Florida speedway, Hendrick has scored at least one top-five finish. Last year at Homestead, the organization became the first ever to finish 1-2-3 in the championship standings when Jimmie Johnson won his record-setting fourth Cup championship, Mark Martin finished second and Jeff Gordon took third in the season standings. During Sunday's pre-race festivities at Texas Motor Speedway, Jeff Gordon presented the keys to his personal Corvette to raffle winner Cindy McCotter of Matthews, N.C. After handing over the keys to the Corvette to McCotter, Gordon asked her to accompany him on stage in presenting the Texas Chapter Speedway Children's Charities with a check for $75,000 designated to benefit childhood cancer initiatives in the state of Texas.
